Mobile internet users see rise in March

The number of mobile internet users registered moderate growth in March this year at a time when the country was witnessing surge in number of Covid-19 cases.

The number of internet users stood at 11.61 crore in March while the number of mobile internet users stood at 10.63 crore. The numbers were 10.32 and 9.52 last year as per data available at the official site of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission. This number is also 12.48 per cent higher than that of the same period last year.

The number of mobile phone users also rose to a nine-month high in March.

Telecom operator Grameenphone said they have seen strong growth in usage of 4G handsets in March due to increased demand for mobile internet.

The mobile phone operator upgraded all of its 15,590 towers to 4G in March, boosting its customer experience, said.

The mobile operator bridged the gap between 3G and 4G data which offers to make sure that customers get the offers they prefer, said GP head of external communications Md Hasan.

In March, GP had 8.08 crore subscribers, up by 7.3 per cent from the same period last year. Robi at the time had 5.19 crore users while Banglalink had 3.63 crore. Teletalk added 7.77 lakh new customers to take its tally to 56.9 lakh at the end of March.
