Private labs told to suspend sample booths outside hospitals

Private Covid-19 testing laboratories have been directed to suspend operations of sample collection booths outside hospitals targeted to serve overseas-bound passengers.

Besides, under no circumstances can samples be collected from home for outgoing passengers to foreign destinations.

The health directorate came up with 8 such directives Thursday following allegations of providing fake Covid-19 certificates and charging additional money.

Some of the other directives include, the main passport must be scrutinised and the form should be filled up with the passport number exactly during the test, no chance for re-testing passengers who were tested positive within seven days, passengers who test positive seven days prior to the journey must be tested through government testing labs.

If a complaint is raised about an RT-PCR lab, the lab's activities will be temporarily suspended and subsequent approval will be considered subject to investigation, warned the health directorate on Thursday.
