Bangladesh’s ace allrounder Shakib Al Hasan has again made headlines for his on-field misdemeanour at the Mohammedan Sporting Club’s crucial match against Abahani Limited at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

The incident took place on Friday, at a match of the Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier League (DPL), when the umpire did not respond to Shakib’s appeal of a LBW and he kicked the stump at the bowler’s end in a feat of anger.

Mohammedan was pushing Abahani hard, leaving them 21-3, after they were restricted to 145-6.

With Shuvagata Hom slicing Abahani’s top order, Shakib sensed a victory against the archrivals.

Shakib who was lively from the very beginning of the game saw his leg-before appeal turned down firstly against Mushfiqur and he didn’t react then. Mushfiqur looked to be in top touch after making 11 off five balls. But the second time when he wrapped Mushfiqur’s pad with an arm ball, his strong appeal once again was turned down. Shakib went up to umpire and vented his anger by kicking the stumps.

Mushfiqur’s dismissal could have effectively sealed the game for Mohammedan.

However, five balls later dark clouds hovered over the grounds and umpire asked the covers to be brought on but Shakib came in and threw down the stumps again before leaving.

Mohammedan came in to this match on the back of three straight defeats. Another defeat at the hands of archrivals Abahani Limited even could dash their hopes of sealing the Super Six phase also.

Mohammedan did not win a game against Abahani in DPL since 2014. Shakib, who himself is going through a bad patch, scored highest 27 off 37 with one four and two sixes.

There was some sort of exchange of words at the boundary rope between Shakib and Abahani staff but Khaled Mahmud Sujon, the coach of Abahani was seen to restrain Shakib while he was moving towards Abahani tent.
