Shakib Al Hasan apologised on Facebook for his on-field misdemeanour during a Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier League (DPL) match on Friday when he lost his cool and kicked the stumps.

He called his action a “human error” and apologised “for losing my temper and ruining the match for everyone and especially those who are watching from home”, according to a post on his verified Facebook page.

During the match between Mohammedan Sporting Club and Abahani Limited at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Shakib kicked the stumps at the bowler’s end as the umpire did not respond to his LBW appeal.

The Mohammedan skipper said that an experienced player like him “should not have reacted that way” but “sometimes against all odds it happens unfortunately”.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board and the organising committee are yet to formally comment on the issue but he might face harsh punishment for his action.

Five balls after the incident, the umpires asked the covers to be brought on but Shakib came in and threw down the stumps again before leaving.

There was some sort of exchange of words at the boundary rope between Shakib and Abahani staff but Abahani coach Khaled Mahmud Sujon restrained Shakib while he was moving towards Abahani tent.

In his Facebook post, Shakib apologised to the teams, management, tournament officials and organising committee and promised that he “won't be repeating this again in the future”.
