Bangladesh Cricket Board on Saturday banned all-rounder Shakib al Hasan for three matches in the Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier League T20 and fined him Tk 5 lakh for his action during a League match in Mirpur on Friday.

Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis chairman Kazi Inam Ahmed announced the decision in a press conference held at the residence of BCB president Nazmul Hasan.

Playing for Mohammedan Sporting Club against Abahani Limited, Shakib kicked a stump after the umpire turned down a leg-before appeal.

Shakib, who was leading Mohammedan in the match, was also involved in an ugly spat with Abahani coach Khaled Mahmud in the match.

Mohammedan beat Abahani by 31 runs in Duckworth/Lewis method in the match.

The incident of kicking the stumps happened in the last ball of the fifth over when Shakib appealed for lbw against Abahani’s Mushfiqur Rahim and was rejected by umpire Imran Parvez.

A furious Shakib not only kicked the stumps and but engaged in a heated conversation with the on-field umpire.

It was not the only controversial behaviour of Shakib in the game as, during the batting of his side, he made a hand gesture to indicate to the square-leg umpire that Abahani spinner Arafat Sunny was chucking.

The situation aggravated further when the umpires stopped the play for rain after 5.5 overs, leaving Shakib furious. Angry at the decision, Shakib rushed to the pitch and uprooted the stumps and threw it away.

While returning to the dressing room, he also made an indecent gesture towards Abahani players, which enraged Abahani coach Khaled Mahmud, who attempted to rush towards the Mohammedan cricketers but was stopped by Shamsur Rahman.
