Dhaka Premier League club Mohammedan Sporting Club has requested the Bangladesh Cricket Board to reduce the punishment of all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan.

Confirming the matter, Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis member secretary Ali Hossain told The Business Post Mohammedan sent a letter to the BCB on Sunday in this regard.

“They sent a letter to the BCB. The club requested the board to withdraw his three-match suspension and keep his fine,” Hossain said.

The BCB on Saturday suspended Shakib for three DPL matches and fined him Tk 5 lakh for kicking and uprooting stumps during Friday’s league match against Abahani Limited.

The BCB said Shakib was reported for two counts of misconduct during the match by the match officials.

Mohammedan captain Shakib kicked the stump after the umpire turned down a leg-before appeal against Abahani’s Mushfiqur Rahim in the fifth over of Abahani innings.

He rushed to the pitch and uprooted the stumps and threw it away an over later after umpired called for pitch cover to stop the game.

“Shakib was found guilty of conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game after showing aggressive behaviour towards the umpire,” the BCB said in a statement issued Saturday.

The player was also penalised for bringing the game into disrepute through use of offensive language and reckless conduct with the umpires, it added

Shakib accepted the sanctions and as such no formal hearing was required.
