Mushfiqur Rahim of Bangladesh has won the International Cricket Council’s Player of the Month award for May 2021 for his stellar performance against Sri Lanka.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed the matter in a press release on Monday.

Mushfiq played one Test and three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) against Sri Lanka in May. He scored 237 runs in three ODIs, including 125 in the second ODI, helping Bangladesh win their first ODI series against Sri Lanka.

Hasan Ali of Pakistan and Praveen Jayawickrama of Sri Lanka were the two other nominees with Mushfiq.

All-rounder Kathryn Bryce from Scotland won the ICC Women’s Player of the Month. She is the first player from Scotland, male, or female, to make it to the top 10 of the batting or bowling lists.

Kathryn played four T20Is against Ireland where she scored 96 runs and took 5 wickets with an economy rate of 4.76 in the month of May.

ICC announced the winners of the ICC Player of the Month Awards for May 2021 on Monday which recognise and celebrate the best performances from both male and female cricketers across all forms of international cricket throughout the year.

Commenting on Rahim’s performance in May, VVS Laxman representing the ICC Voting Academy added, “Even after 15 years at the highest level, Mushfiqur has not lost his appetite for run-making.”
