Court sets July 8 for probe report in Pori Moni’s case

A Dhaka court on Tuesday fixed July 8 for the submission of an investigation report in the case over rape and murder attempts on Dhallywood actress Pori Moni.

Inspector Mesbah Uddin Ahmed of Dhaka district police confirmed the matter to the media.

On Monday, Dhallywood actress Pori Moni filed a case with Savar police station against Dhaka Boat Club executive committee member and real estate businessman Nasir Uddin Mahmood, his friend Omie and four others accusing them of attempting to rape and kill her.

Detective Branch of police arrested prime accused Nasir Uddin Mahmood, Omie and three women in a drive carried out in the capital’s Uttara on Monday. Drugs and yaba pills were also seized from his home.

Hours after making a Facebook post seeking justice for the incident happened with her, Pori Moni at a press briefing at her Banani residence said that she escaped a rape and murder attempts by Nasir Uddin Mahmood at the Dhaka Boat Club in Ashulia on the night of June 8. She and her makeup artiste Jimy were also physically assaulted.

Later, many celebrities came in her support and took to their social media handles to seek justice for the actress. Bangladesh Chalachitra Shilpi Samity also condemned the incident and promised to continue their support for Pori Moni.
