CCC, Robi to transform Chattogram into a smart city

The Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) and Robi Axiata Limited have joined hands to transform the port city into a modern and smart city.

CCC Chief Executive Officer Kazi Mohammad Mozammel Haque and Robi Managing Director and CEO Mahtab Uddin Ahmed signed a memorandum of understanding in this regard on behalf of their respective organisations at Nagar Bhaban in the port city, said a press release.

Chattogram Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury was also present during the signing.

Under the agreement, Robi will initially set up an active network infrastructure on 100 lampposts under the city corporation as per the policy of the regulatory body.

Under the Robi Smart City Internet of Things (IoT), the agreement also plans to set up a smart environment by installing smart street lamps, smart waste management and noise pollution reduction technologies.

Addressing the event, Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury said: “Noise pollution, garbage management, and aesthetic enhancement needs to be addressed in order to establish a beautiful city.”

“We should move forward in the same direction where cities from different parts of the world are transforming into smart cities,” he added.

The venture also plans to set up smart city surveillance or digital surveillance systems to ensure safety of its citizens.

There are also plans to set up Robi smart parking facilities, Robi shuttle services for students and digital displays, added the press release.

Meanwhile, Robi CEO and MD Mahtab Uddin Ahmed said: “We applaud the initiative of Chittagong City Corporation to develop Chittagong a smart city and expand its civic amenities. There is no alternative to transform our cities into smart cities in order to keep up with global technology advancements.”
