Rainfall likely to continue in coming days

The Met Office forecasts light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind at most places over the country including the capital.

In its regular weather bulletin, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur over most places of Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal & Chattogram divisions and at many places over Rajshahi, Rangpur, Mymensingh & Sylhet divisions with moderately heavy to very heavy falls at isolated places over the country.

Current weather conditions are expected to continue until 6:00pm Thursday, with rain or thunderstorms likely to continue. Weather conditions might change slightly in the next five days, says the forecast.

Regarding the synoptic situation, the BMD said the low pressure over Bihar and the adjoining area now lies over East Uttar Pradesh and adjoining area. The axis of the monsoon trough runs through Uttar Pradesh, the centre of the low, Bihar, West Bengal thence northeastwards to Assam across the central part of Bangladesh. Monsoon is active over Bangladesh and moderate to strong over North Bay.

Day and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country, according to the forecast.

On Tuesday, the highest temperature was recorded in Sylhet at 36 degrees Celcius, and the lowest temperature was recorded in Teknaf at 24.5 degrees Celcius.

Dhaka recorded a high of 33.2 degrees Celsius and a low of 26 degrees Celsius of temperature on Tuesday.

Bhola received the highest rainfall of 6mm in the last 24 hours till 6:00pm Tuesday. Besides, Cox's Bazar received 75mm, Kutubdia 72mm, Teknaf 44mm, Khepupara 36mm, Maijdi Court 35mm, Hatia 28mm, Mymensingh 28mm, Barisal 21mm and Tentulia 20mm of rainfall.
