Celebrated Bangladeshi director Mostofa Sarwar Farooki’s maiden web series ‘Ladies & Gentlemen’ is set to premiere on ZEE5 Global on July 9. Bangladeshi viewers will be able to stream the new web series on ZEE5 for free.

ZEE5 Global, the world’s largest platform for South Asian content, has announced the launch of its mega Bangladeshi original web series in a virtual press conference recently.

Shot by globally acclaimed cinematographer Alexey Kosorukov, the story of ‘Ladies & Gentlemen’ revolves around the life of an ordinary girl and her emotional journey to become the voice of each and every working woman in Bangladesh.

The cast of the series includes Partha Barua, Hasan Masood, Iresh Zaker, Mukit Zakaria, Tasnia Farin, Pavel Areen and Maria Nur, among others.

Director Farooki has already carved out a significant place in the international arena with his notable film projects like ‘Television’, ‘Third Person Singular Number’ and ‘Doob’, amongst others.

Speaking about ‘Ladies & Gentlemen’, Farooki said, “This is my first web series and that too on an international platform like Zee5 Global, so I am very much thrilled with this partnership. We have put in a lot of effort with ‘Ladies & Gentlemen’, including partnering with an extremely talented international DOP Alexey Kosorukov. We hope that the series will ignite a conversation amongst its viewers about the societal issues that are highlighted in it.”

The 2-minute and 21-second trailer depicts the tale of an ordinary girl and how she tackles different social issues like gender inequality, rape culture, misogyny, patriarchy and others.

The eight-episode series sheds light on the dominant ideology of patriarchy that is deep routed in our society and how a woman fights against it every day. The series portrays the journey of the protagonist as she fights for her rights in her own workplace and in the process, paved the way for every working woman in Bangladesh.

Mostofa Sarwar Farooki always tries to address different types of social issues in his works. He made his much-talked-about film ‘Third Person Singular Number’ a decade ago and highlighted the social issue like patriarchy in Bangladesh. This time around, Farooki has yet again struck his magic with his maiden web series which is expected to play a vital role in changing the stereotypes in the society.

However, Farooki’s next film ‘No Land’s Man’, co-produced and composed by Oscar-winner AR Rahman (‘Slumdog Millionaire’) and starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui (‘Sacred Games’), is currently in post-production.
