Prominent literary magazine Kali O Kalam recognised four young wordsmiths this year with its Kali O Kalam Young Poet and Writer Award 2020. Presented by IFIC Bank Ltd, the award event took place virtually on Friday evening, said a press release.

The awards were conferred in four categories. Writer Mojaffor Hossain was awarded for his fiction ‘Timirjatra’ while Masud Parvaj received the award in essay-research category for his work ‘Chalachchitranama’. Izaz Ahmed Milon received the award for his book ‘1971: Bidhwasta Bariyay Shudhu-e Lash’ under the category of literature on Liberation War of Bangladesh and Ranzit Sarker took home the award in child and juvenile literature category for his book ‘School-e Muktijuddha Hoyechhilo’.

The organisers informed that no award was announced for poetry this year as the adequate number of submissions were not received in this category.

Eminent writer Wasi Ahmed and professor Pabitra Sarkar from Rabindra Bharati University and IFIC Bank managing director and chief executive officer Shah A Sarwar, among others, delivered speeches at the event.

Late Dhaka University Professor Emeritus Dr Anisuzzaman and late Kali O Kalam editor Abul Hasnat were remembered at the event. Moderated by Luva Nahid Choudhury and Tropa Majumdar, prominent Tagore singer Adity Mohsin rendered songs at the event.
