DSE key index dips below 6,000-point mark

The country's prime bourse, Dhaka Stock Exchange, on Sunday, plunged below 6,000-point mark due to huge sell pressure in most of the sectors with investors getting wary ahead of a nationwide lockdown set to be enforced from Monday.

The key index, DSEX, lost 100.11 points or 1.64 per cent and closed at 5992. The bourse’s turnover increased by 8.90 per cent to stand at Tk 1,740 crore at the end of the session. Textile sector dominated the turnover chart covering 26.74 per cent out of total sum.

Among the traded issues, 54 gained, 306 declined and 12 remained unchanged during the session at the Dhaka bourse.

According to market insiders, some wary investors continued to book profit on quick-gaining stocks amid upward trend of coronavirus cases and deaths in the country which might have created a heavy impact on the bourses.

Meanwhile, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also saw a sharp decline with CSE All Share Price Index- CASPI falling 297 points to settle at 17,359.86 and the Selective Categories Index CSCX losing 181 points to close at 10,441.02.

Amid the continuous rise in coronavirus cases, the government is set to enforce a nationwide partial lockdown from Monday and a complete lockdown from Thursday.
