Closed BJMC mills to reopen under pvt management

Laid off mills under the Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation would be reopened after renting or leasing out them to private management and terminated employees of those mills would get priority in reemployment, said textile and jute minister Golam Dastagir Gazi.

Besides, the mills would also create scopes for fresh employment of skilled workers and all the workers would be rehabilitated in phases, he said.

The minister said this at a function of distributing integrity award and signing annual performance agreement between offices and enterprises under the ministry at his office on Sunday.

The minister said jute is an important sector for Bangladesh’s economy as it secured second position in the country’s export tally replacing leathers. Bangladesh earned $1062.54 million in the first 11 months of the current fiscal year, said the minister adding that it was 33.32 per cent higher than the previous year’s export.

It was also 2.57 per cent higher than the export target for the same period, he said.

Textile and jute secretary M Abdul Mannan, additional secretary Mohammad Abul Kalam and senior officers were present at the function.
