Bourses to cut trading hours from Monday

The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) has shortened trading hours by one and a half hours (90 minutes) in line with the strict nationwide lockdown set to be enforced from Thursday.

Under the new order, transactions at the country’s two bourses will continue from 10:00am till 1:00pm during the period.

The decision will be effective from Monday at both Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE).

Authorities of the two bourses have also requested investors to transact digitally, via mobile phones and online, to avoid physical contact of any sort.

The government on Wednesday issued a set of restrictions to be imposed during the nationwide one-week strict lockdown from 1-7 July.

Meanwhile, banks will remain open from 10:00am to 1:30pm for customer transactions, while internal office activities will be allowed until 3:00pm, said a notification from the Bangladesh Bank (BB) on Wednesday.
