The National Board of Revenue has asked all the banks to freeze bank accounts of former Bangladesh Bank Deputy Governor SK Sur Chowdhury and his wife Suparna Sur Chowdhury.

The directive was sent to all banks from the Central Intelligence Cell of the board on Wednesday asking the banks to withhold withdrawals and transfers from their accounts till further orders.

The board asked the banks to implement the instructions immediate after receiving the letter and also submit a report on implementation status.

SK Sur is accused of cooperating former NRB Global Bank managing director Prashant Kumar Haldar in embezzling Tk 3,500 core by occupying positions in various financial institutions.

In their confessions before the court, former managing director of International Leasing Rashedul Haque and former chairman of People’s Leasing Ujjal Kumar Nandi, who were detained as PK Haldar’s cronies, had accused officials of the Bangladesh Bank of taking bribes.

Rashedul Haque in his confessionals statement said that SK Sur was one of the sources of power of PK Haldar through whom Haldar used to suppress his irregularities.
