Shamima not to be allowed to enter Bangladesh

British citizen Shamima Begum, who joined the Islamic State (IS) at the age of 15, will not be allowed to enter Bangladesh.

A press release was issued by the foreign ministry on Tuesday (June 16) in this regard.

The press release said, various news reports about British citizen Shamima Begum have attracted the attention of the Foreign Ministry. Shamima went to Syria at the age of 15 and joined IS. The British government revoked her citizenship in February last year. Later, Shamima, now 20, appealed to British high court and Special Immigration Appeals Commission (SIAC) against the Home Office’s decision to revoke her United Kingdom citizenship. The court rejected Shamima Begum's appeal and argued that she is of Bangladeshi origin and eligible for Bangladeshi citizenship.

“Bangladesh’s firm position is – British citizen Shamima Begum was never a Bangladeshi citizen, she has also no right to claim in this regard and there is no question to allow her to enter into Bangladesh,” said the release.
