BNP continues criticising govt blindly: Quader

BNP has been repeating the blind criticism of the government since the beginning of the coronavirus crisis, said Road, Transport and Bridges Minister and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Wednesday.

“They have accepted spreading lies and rumours as to their sacred duty instead of standing by the people of the country...their lies are an attempt to destroy the morale of the frontline fighters,” he said while briefing reporters at his residence.

The minister urged BNP to stand by people and extend support to the activities of the government to tackle the pandemic.

He also highlighted several government initiatives to contain the spread of the contagious disease. “In addition to implementing zone-based lockdown, the government has taken steps to increase medical equipment and testing centres.”

He reiterated that the government is strictly following the zero-tolerance approach against corruption.

“The government will maintain zero-tolerance against irregularities in medical equipment purchasing, just as it has been severely strict for irregularities in relief distribution,” he said.

The minister condemned the negligence of those who are still not wearing masks outdoors.

About the zone-based division for curbing the spread of Covid-19 infection, the minister stressed the coordination among the government institutions.

“Effective steps should be taken through strong coordination among all the departments concerned and authorities including DGHS, city corporations and DMP,” he said.
