Basundhara Kings sealed their second consecutive Bangladesh Premier League trophy on Monday with four games in hand as they beat Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club by 2-0 at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka.

With this win, Kings have 55 points from their 20 matches. Dhaka Abahani, who sit second in the points table, have accumulated 40 points from their 20 games. Even if they go on to win all of their remaining four games and Kings lose all of their remaining four, the Dhanmondi-based club will still finish behind them by three points.

Just three hours before the match, Sheikh Jamal were struck with a bolt from the blue as their coach Shafiqul Islam Manik was dismissed by the club without any prior notice.

Taking the field without a coach, Sheikh Jamal failed to keep up with the league leaders and it was not long before Kings scored as Robson Robinho opened the scoring in the 21st minute from a pass from Jonathan Fernandes.

Fernandes scored the second goal for Kings to make sure that they sealed the fate of the league.

After the final whistle, Kings celebrated their league title as they wore a shirt that had ‘Champions’ written on it.
