The government has set fees for Covid-19 tests at Tk 200 and Tk 500, depending on sample collection methods.
Health ministry issued a circular in this regard on Sunday (June 28).
According to the notice, a test fee of Tk 200 has been set if a sample is provided to dedicated test booths or government hospitals. Additionally, one has to pay Tk 500 to take a Covid-19 test by having sample collected from home.
The notice signed by the Deputy Secretary of Health Services Division Bilkis Begum also said the decision will come into effect soon.
Covid-19 test is being conducted through RT-PCR test and the government is giving the service at a free of cost.
Many people have availed the opportunity from the government hospitals while people who have no symptoms have also conducted their tests.
In such cases, the government took the initiative to avoid testing unnecessarily.
The order will come into effect after getting approval from the authorities concerned.
The costs of Covid-19 tests at private hospitals are high. But people have to go to private hospitals for testing due to huge pressure at government hospitals.
