Covid positivity rate lowest in six months

Bangladesh reported 35 new coronavirus-related deaths, lowest in 99 days, and 2,074 infections in a 24-hour period till 8:00am on Tuesday.

The positivity rate dropped to 6.54 per cent during this period, which is the lowest percentage in over six months.

The country earlier reported a positivity rate of 6.26 per cent on March 13 and 30 deaths of the deadly infection on June 7.

The overall caseload now stands at 15, 34,440 and the total fatalities at 27,007, according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 31,724 samples at 806 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 93, 03,845 samples.

Meanwhile, 3,735 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 14, 86,668.

Among the fresh fatalities, 21 were males and 14 were females.

Dhaka division logged the highest deaths with 15 fatalities, followed by eight in Chattogram, four in and Rajshahi and Khulna and two each in Barishal and Sylhet. Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.
