Bangladesh Cricket Board President Nazmul Hassan said on Tuesday that he wants someone new at the helm at BCB after the upcoming elections.

The 12th board meeting of BCB was held on Tuesday, the last of the current board that came in to form the hierarchy after the 2017 BCB elections.

After serving as the BCB President for more than two terms, Nazmul said he wants someone new at his current position and will not have a panel in the upcoming election.

“I believe that if new minds don’t come to the board, there will be no new ideas, and everything will stay static. I fully want someone new (to become BCB President).

“I will not have a panel in the upcoming election. Anyone can compete. If I win there, I will come as a director. My first wish is that I don’t want to be President now. I want to help the new President. I don’t know what will happen next because I have no idea how the board will be after the election,” Nazmul said.

He went on to say that he felt that if he was there, nobody else would want his post as President, but Nazmul wants a pipeline of leadership.

“If I stay here, I think nobody will want to take my place till I die. This is wrong, I don’t believe in it at all. I want people to come to the board and challenge my place. But nobody says that now and that is not a good thing. We should have a pipeline for those who will carry the responsibility.

“I want leadership to grow. There is no shortage of that in Bangladesh. Everyone wants to be a board director, but nobody says a thing about becoming President. If someone new is elected President, I will be happy and fully support them, even if I lose. It’s not right that things will continue the same, and nobody will speak even if they wish to become President,” the BCB President said.

BCB is yet to announce the date of the upcoming election. Nazmul said that it would be decided soon after the meeting of the election commission.

The current committee will expire on October 13, and the election will happen before that. The possible dates are October 7 and 8.

The BCB President also informed that 171 councillors sent in their name for the upcoming elections, and so they will be the final voters for the upcoming election.
