DSE PE falls 53pc in outgoing fiscal

The overall price-to-earnings ratio (PE ratio) of the country's main stock market, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), has declined by 53 per cent in the outgoing 2019-2020 fiscal year.

This information was found from the sources in the DSE. It has been learned that at the beginning of the last fiscal year, the PE of DSE was 14.25 points, which stood at 9.31 points on the last working day of the FY. In other words, the PE ratio has decreased by 4.94 points or 53.06 per cent in one year.

On the last working day (June 30), the PE ratio of the banking sector stood at 4.34 points. Besides, points settled at 15.62 in the financial sector, 10.49 in the mutual fund sector, 10.09 in the engineering sector, 17.43 in the food and allied sector, 9.51 in the power and energy sector, 31.69 in the jute sector, 11.72 in the textile sector, 15.23 in pharmaceuticals and chemicals and 23.76 in the paper and printing sector.

Apart from these, PE ratio stood st 12.59 points in the services and Real Estate sector, 20.82 points in the cement sector, 19.15 points in the IT sector, 12.69 points in the leather sector, 17.69 points in the ceramic sector, 12.13 points in the insurance sector, 9.59 points in the telecommunications sector, 25.46 points in the travel sector and 18.92 points in the miscellaneous sector at the end of the fiscal year.
