Globe Biotech claims discovery of Covid-19 vaccine

Globe Biotech Limited, a subsidiary of Globe Pharmaceuticals Group, has claimed to have discovered a vaccine against coronavirus.

Globe Biotech Limited made the claim at a press conference in the company's head office in Tejgaon, Dhaka on Thursday (July 2).

It was informed at the press conference that the company started research work on finding a vaccine against coronavirus on March 8.

CEO Kakon Nag and COO Nazneen Sultana of the company was in overall supervision of the discovery of this vaccine. It will be possible to bring the vaccine to the market within the next 6 months if all the stages are passed properly.

Globe Biotech Limited Chairman Harunur Rashid said at the press conference that on March 8 research activities related to the discovery of Covid-19 identification kits, vaccines and medicines were started. In this context, we are working to launch clinical trials to monitor the safety and efficacy of the vaccine.

He added, “According to the NCBI virus database, 5,743 complete genome sequences have been submitted worldwide till June 30, of which 76 were submitted from Bangladesh. By testing these sequences through the bioinformatics tool, we have confirmed our ticker targets, which would logically be more effective in this geographic region.”

The complete coding sequence of this target has been submitted to the NCBI Virus database in the United States, which has already been recognized and published by the NCBI (accession number: MT676411). After a detailed analysis of the vaccine discovered in our laboratory, we have obtained satisfactory results in making appropriate antibodies by experimentally applying it in laboratory animal models, he added.
