Bangladesh High-Performance team batsmen Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Akbar Ali struck fifties in the second day of their four-day match against Bangladesh A Team at Chattogram.

The HP team scored 237-8 at the end of second day’s play, taking a six-run lead. Joy top-scored with 73 with left-arm spinner Rakibul Hasan picked up three wickets.

The A team were bowled out for 231 earlier in the day, with HP left-arm spinner Hasan Murad picked up six wickets.

HP team openers Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Parvez Hossain Emon were sent back early by Abu Jayed Rahi and Shahidul Islam respectively. Shahadat Hossain did not last long either as Khaled Ahmed sent him back for a duck.

From there, Mahmudul and Towhid Hridoy put together a 107-run stand as the former went past fifty. Hridoy was close to his fifty too, but Rakibul sent him back for 47.

After a brief 32-run partnership with skipper Akbar Ali, Mahmudul fell as Naeem Hasan sent him back for 73.

Akbar put up a 36-run stand with Anisul Islam, who fell as the sixth wicket for a quickfire 35 off 41 deliveries.

Akbar picked up a well-made fifty but got out soon after in the final delivery of the day as Rakibul picked up his third scalp by dismissing the wicketkeeper-batsman for 51.
