Covid-19: Daily deaths drop to 24, positivity rate 4.61%

Bangladesh reported 24 new coronavirus-related deaths and 1,144 infections in a 24-hour period till 8:00am on Thursday.

The positivity rate dropped down to 4.61 per cent from Wednesday’s 4.79 per cent.

Thursday’s death toll is the lowest since May 15 when 22 deaths were reported.

The overall caseload now stands at 15,48,320 and the total fatalities at 27,337, according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 24,820 samples at 814 laboratories across the country.

Bangladesh has so far tested 95,51,970 samples.

Meanwhile, 1,653 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 15,07,789.

Among the fresh fatalities, 10 were males and 14 were females.

Dhaka division logged the highest deaths with 11 fatalities, followed by six in Chattogram, three each in Rajshahi and Sylhet, and one in Rangpur.

Rajshahi, Barishal and Mymensingh divisions reported no new deaths.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.

Meanwhile, the global Covid-19 caseload reached 230,963,765 and the death toll to 4,734,563 till Thursday morning, according to US-based Johns Hopkins University (JHU) update.
