Citizens of Rajshahi City will soon find traffic jam free road as the city corporation has taken an initiative to convert the double-lane road into four-lane to ease the suffering of daily commuters .

According to sources, Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) will turn the 3.532-kilometre Bismilla Railway crossing to City Hat road to 80-feet wide along with a four-foot wide road-divider spending Tk 44.92 crore.

Meanwhile, RCC Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton already inaugurated the construction works after unveiling the foundation stone of the road.

On both sides of the four–lane, 44-feet road, 12-feet wide drain and footpath and 20-feet road for the slow-moving vehicle will be constructed.

The project – Urban Infrastructure Development in Rajshahi City – will cost Tk 2,993 crore, said RCC sources.

Under a megaproject, RCC is also going to construct five more flyovers soon for the development of the metropolis through freeing the city from traffic congestion.

Widening of three highways through the city, six flyovers over rail crossings and construction of 12 over bridges in front of school-college universities, renovation and construction of 1,600 lanes and development of three recreation centers are notable in the project.

In the meantime, the road from Kashiadanga to Bahrampur, from Darikharbona to Manichatbar, Alif Lam Mim has been widened. The rest of the roads are also under construction.

Carpeting work of the much awaited Talaimari Junction to Kalpana Cinema Hall Junction is currently underway.

Rajshahi City Corporation Chief Engineer Khandaker Khairul Bashar said the city is undergoing massive development under the guidance Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton.

The appearance of the city has changed with the development of infrastructure, greening, development of communication system. Rajshahi has been prepared as a city of peace and a good livable city. In the light of this, important roads of the city are being widened.

Earlier, the city corporation has constructed a 202.5-metre flyover along with a 120-metre ramp at Budhpara Railway crossing with an estimated cost of Tk 29.28 crore for the first time in Rajshahi city.

Liton said the Rajshahi city will get a new look upon successful implementation of the mega project.

Two access roads and a hanging bridge have been turned over by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 2 to two municipal local government units (LGUs) in Nueva Vizcaya to ease the transport of farm products and improve living conditions in the upland communities.
