Bangladesh is hopeful of receiving some 71 lakh doses of Covid-19 Pfizer vaccines under the global vaccine-sharing initiative Covax, apart from a steady flow of jabs from China.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh has received 10 lakh doses of Pfizer vaccine, out of the committed 60 lakh doses.

“We have got such an assurance of getting another 71 lakh doses will come soon,” said the minister.

Zahid Maleque said, “As Bangladesh has sufficient vaccine stock at the moment, the government has undertaken a plan to go for a nationwide vaccination campaign in the next four to five days to inoculate around 10 million people in addition to the regular vaccination.”

Though the Covid test in Dhaka airport has already begun in a limited scale, a full-pledged testing would start from Saturday as all the RT-PCR laboratories would be able start their testing operation by this time, he added.
