FBCCI seeks UN support to achieve SDGs

The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry President Md. Jashim Uddin has sought supports from the United Nations to tackle the post-LDC challenges and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.

Jasim made the call while addressing a conference with business leaders and delegates titled “New World New Hope: United Nations and Bangladesh” at NYPD Center, in New York on Thursday.

The Conference was organised by the Center for Non Residence Bangladeshi (NRB) in cooperation with the New York Police Department (NYPD) as a sideline event of the 76th UN General Assembly (UNGA).

Speaking as guest speaker, the FBCCI president praised UN agencies for supporting Bangladesh in the fields of sustainable development solutions, poverty alleviation, disaster management, environment, climate change, women and children development, education, industrial development, capacity development, health care and research.

“We look forward the further cooperation and technical support from UN agencies for capacity building of the private sector to face the challenges of graduation and attain the SDGs,” said the business leader.

The UN system is working with the people and Government of Bangladesh to create a more sustainable, peaceful, innovative and resilient economy, environment and society, he mentioned.

Admiring Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he said, the Covid-19 pandemic impacted the economy of Bangladesh sharply, but with the right policies and timely interventions, the country accelerated its recovery and continue to progress towards further development.
