'Miraculous' survivor of 'MV Morning Bird' flees from hospital

The man who was 'miraculously rescued' 13 hours after the tragic Buriganga launch capsize, has reportedly fled his hospital while receiving treatment after media reports and analysis triggered much debate over the incident.

Although the incident took place two days back, it came to light on Friday.

Suman Bepari, 55, of Abdullapur under Tongibari thana in Munshiganj, was 'rescued' by divers on Monday night. Since then, he had been undergoing treatment at Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital.

Ever since the dramatic 'rescue', a number of media reports questioned the authenticity of the incident that triggered a nationwide discussion both in favour and against the rescue.

Suman escaped from Mitford Hospital on Wednesday, said an official of the hospital seeking anonymity. He was undergoing treatment at the Medicine Building of the hospital.

But the hospital authorities claimed that Suman has been released two days back after full recovery.

Dhaka-bound ‘MV Morning Bird’ launch from Munshiganj sank at 9:33 am in the river after being hit by another launch ‘Mayur-2’ near Shyambazar in the capitals old town.

A total of 32 people were killed.
