Bangladesh reports 29 more deaths from coronavirus, 3,288 new cases

29 patients died from Covid-19 in the country over the last 24 hours as of Saturday, taking the death toll to 1,997.

Besides, 3,288 more people tested positive for the virus, which makes 159,679 confirmed cases in total. 

Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Saturday afternoon. 

Dr Nasima mentioned that a total of 13,871 samples were collected and 14,727 tested in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 832,074 samples have been tested in the country.

With 2,673 new recoveries, a total of 70,721 patients recovered from coronavirus to date.

The deceased, of whom 21 were males and eight females, belonged to the following age groups: one was between 11-20 years, one between 31-40, four between 41-50 years, nine were between 51-60 years, 11 between 61-70, one between 71-80 and two were between 81-90 years.

Under division-wise categorisation, nine hailed from the Dhaka division, four from Chattogram, seven from Rajshahi, three each from Khulna and Sylhet, two from Barishal and one was from the Mymensingh division.

25 breathed their last while undergoing treatment at various hospitals whereas one died at home. The remaining three were already dead when brought to the hospitals.

Meanwhile, global deaths from the novel coronavirus infection reached 524,614 as of Saturday morning, according to the data by Centre for System Science and Engineering of Johns Hopkins University.

A total of 11,047,217 cases have been confirmed around the world after Covid-19, the disease caused by the new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year.

So far, 6,297,911 people have recovered globally.
