Qcoom owner Ripon held

Detectives have arrested the owner of e-commerce entity Qcoom on charges of embezzling money through fraudulence.

A team of Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police apprehended Md Ripon Mia, managing director and chief executive officer of Qcoom, during a drive, DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Md Faruk Hossain confirmed on Monday.

Details of the arrest will be disclosed at a press conference at 12:00pm.

There are also allegations that the controversial e-commerce platform, Qcoom, joined the procession of similar enterprises in delaying delivery of products unusually going against the commerce ministry’s instructions regarding e-commerce management.

The platform offered a wide spectrum of commodities at huge discounts, but many customers said they are yet to receive the products they ordered even after three to four months despite paying instantly.

Qcoom already closed down its Niketon office in Dhaka, but continued to receive orders and payment online which has now been a major concern for customers as they fear the company is taking the course of Evaly, E-orange and other similar entities.

Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigation Department of police arrested three people, including the CEO of e-commerce firm SPC World and the director of Nirapad Shop.

Details of their arrests will be disclosed at a separate press conference on Monday afternoon.
