The government has formed a high-powered committee to devise ways to bring discipline in the country’s e-commerce sector.

On Tuesday, the Cabinet Division formed the 15-member committee and asked to file a report and make recommendations within one month, a senior commerce ministry official said yesterday.

The committee will recommend ways to restore discipline in the online marketplace and protect consumers’ rights. It also will recommend ways to refund victim and identify money laundering, if any.

The panel will also work on bringing all e-commerce stakeholders under a common platform and ensure internal communication for a smother operation. It also will work to bring all e-commerce under license and monitor financial transactions in the sector.

The new committee has representatives from the Cabinet Division, ICT Division, Financial Institutions Division, Bangladesh Bank, Police Headquarters, DGFI, NSI, SB, CID, BFIU, NBR, CAB and the commerce ministry.
