Regent chairman Shahed’s bank account seized

Bangladesh Bank has seized the bank accounts of Md. Shahed, chairman of the Regent Hospital, who has been accused of handing out fake coronavirus certificates. 

The directive was issued in a letter to all banks from the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) on Thursday. The banks have been asked to comply with the directive for the next 30 days.

Sources at Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) confirmed the news to the reporters.

Earlier a case was filed against 17 people at Pashchim Police Station in the capital's Uttara area on Tuesday night alleging irregularities and fraud.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Tariqul Islam Shibli, public relations officer (PR) of Regent Hospital, from Nakhalpara in the capital on Thursday morning.

Besides Lt Colonel Ashiq Billah, director of RAB's law and media wing, added that operations are underway in various places to nab Regent Group and Regent Hospital Ltd Chairman Md Shahed, the main accused in the incident.
