Lemos set to become Bangladesh head coach

Dhaka Abahani head coach Mario Lemos is set to become the new head coach of the Bangladesh national football team for their upcoming four-nation tournament in Sri Lanka.

Bangladesh Football Federation General Secretary Abu Nayem Shohag said on Thursday that Lemos was one of the choices for the job but the decision would only be made after the national teams’ committee meeting today.

“Mario Lemos is being considered. There are a couple of other names too. We will decide after the national teams’ committee meeting tomorrow (today),” Shohag told the reporters.

But according to sources from BFF, Lemos is the favourite to take up the job unless anything goes south.

Lemos led Abahani to a third-place finish in the latest season of the Bangladesh Premier League. He also worked with the national team in the past as he was the trainer when Andrew Ord was the head coach in 2017.

BFF had appointed Bashundhara Kings head coach Oscar Bruzon as the head coach of the national team for the SAFF Championship, where Bangladesh were knocked out from the group stage.

BFF wanted to keep Bruzon as the head coach, but the Spaniard has some personal matters to attend to, and also, Kings are unwilling to let go of the coach who led them to consecutive league titles.
