FBCCI keen to sign MoU with apex Spanish trade body

Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) President Md Jashim Uddin on Thursday said that they are keen to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the apex Spanish trade body to boost bilateral trade.

He mentioned Bangladesh as an attractive destination for foreign investors for exports and its vast domestic market, saying that a draft of the MoU would be sent to the Spanish embassy soon.

The FBCCI president made the comment when he met Spanish Ambassador to Bangladesh Francisco de Asis Benitez Salas at the FBCCI Bhaban in Dhaka.

Jashim said that developing relations between the businessmen of the two countries was essential to strengthening trade relations. The exchange of business information will be easier if the FBCCI has an MoU with the apex Spanish trade body, to which Ambassador Salas agreed.

The FBCCI chief noted that the government was establishing 100 economic zones across the country and said that Spain could take a dedicated economic zone to set up factories like China, Japan, Korea and India did.

According to the Spanish ambassador, a few companies, including Inditex and Zara, are doing business in Bangladesh. But there are many world-class Spanish companies in several sectors, including agriculture, food processing, and machine manufacturers.

“But, many of them do not have the right idea about Bangladesh. Therefore, the possibility of trade relations between the two countries is still untapped,” Salas added.
