Shariatpur UNO Mondip Gharai gets death threat

Shariatpur Sadar’s Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mondip Gharai filed a police complaint on Thursday after receiving death threats.

Two letters threatening to kill the UNO were sent by post.

A general diary was filed at Palang Model Police Station in Shariatpur Sadar over the matter.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Palang Model Police Station Akter Hossain told media that he was informed about the letter threatening to kill UNO at noon.

“As the matter is being investigated, it is not possible to say anything details at this time,” he said.

He hoped the whole matter will come out after investigation.

When contacted, the UNO confirmed the matter but did not agree to say details.

According to the police, two handwritten letters were sent to the UNO office through the post. The UNO found some incoherent conversations after reading the letters.

After receiving a death threat in one of the letters, the UNO then informed the matter to the deputy commissioner and the police.

Shariatpur Deputy Commissioner Md Pervez Hasan said the incident of threatening with a letter was a matter of concern.

We are observing the matter in-depth and the police have started work over it, he added.
