No more services from foreign IT vendors: NBR

The tax administrator has disfavoured to take services from the foreign IT companies as it has been grooming up its own IT team to accomplish the automation process.

“No IT services and support will be taken from foreign companies in the future due to the security reason,” said National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem at an event in Dhaka on Wednesday.

The event was organsied to launch an integrated system to ensure harmonization and taxpayer data sharing between NBR and the Finance Division.

For its automation process, NBR had taken the service from the foreign IT companies but now moved to use its own IT team.

“We want our own IT experts and foreign vendors must be reduced for keeping sensitive data secure,” said the NBR chairman. He said, “We need to increase our own IT capacity. NBR has an IT team. Initiatives will be taken to increase its IT capacity through training or workshops. If necessary, we will seek the help of the Ministry of Finance.”

Urging the NBR officials to take necessary measures in this context, Muneem said, “I would like to know the latest information about the app or software-based services that NBR is providing to its customers.”

“We have given Sonali Bank an app of Travelers Tax Collection. Let me know its status. How many people are using the app?”

The NBR has been working for a long period to completely automate the country’s taxation system.
