Time for mask-free movement yet to come: Zahid Maleque

People should still wear masks for safety measures, although the overall Covid-19 situation has improved in the country, said Health Minister Zahid Maleque on Wednesday.

“Still it is not appropriate for people to walk around without wearing masks”, he said while launching a guideline on Epilepsy patient treatment in the capital.

The programme was organised by the Society of Neurologists of Bangladesh where the minister Zahid Maleque was the chief guest.

“Risk is still prevailing, anything can happen within the next 10 to 15 days which can lead to a worse situation”, he said requesting all to remain conscious and wear mask.

The minister said that 25 per cent of the people have already been inoculated with double doses and 40 per cent of the people have been brought under the vaccination coverage.

“In old times, villagers considered Epilepsy as a curse but now it is a curable disease”, he said, adding that currently the country has around 20 lakh autistic children.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Sharfuddin Ahmed, Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services Professor ABM Khurshid Alam and Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons President Quasi Deen Mohammad also spoke at the programme, among others.
