Dhaka crowned NCL Champions

Dhaka Division were crowned champions of the 23rd National Cricket League on Wednesday after they beat Khulna Division by 179 runs in the final round of this year’s edition.

Rangpur Division, who ended the season unbeaten, finished as runners-up, whereas Khulna Division were relegated to Tier-2. Chattogram division, who finished first in Tier-2, earned a promotion to Tier-1.

Dhaka accumulated 35.29 points in this campaign with three wins and two draws, and runners-up Rangpur ended with 31.74 points, including two wins and four draws.

Khulna finished the season with 19.82 points, and Sylhet barely survived in tier-1 with 20.56 points.

In Tier-2, Chattogram finished with 31.6 points, including two wins and two draws. Barishal, who finished second in Tier-2, ended with 29.14 points.

Dhaka, in their final game of the season, claimed a comprehensive win over Khulna at BKSP. Chasing 379, Khulna were bowled out for 199 as Dhaka’s Taibur Rahman claimed five wickets.

Nahidul Islam was Khulna’s top-scorer with 40 as none of the Khulna batsmen could stick at the crease for long to make it count.

Besides Taibur’s five-wicket haul, Shuvagata Hom picked up three wickets for Dhaka.

All the other three matches of this round ended in a draw. Rangpur and Sylhet drew in BKSP, Chattogram and Dhaka Metro at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium and Barishal and Rajshahi in Sylhet Academy Ground.
