26 innovations get Bangladesh Fintech Award

Twenty-six innovations have been received the first edition of the Bangladesh Fintech Award in 11 categories.

The award-giving ceremony organized by Bangladesh Brand Forum was held at a Dhaka hotel, said a press release on Saturday.

Some of the winners are Dana Fintech Limited in the Financial Inclusion category, bKash in the Remittance, Payment, Mobile Money and Financial Inclusion categories; Green Delta Insurance Company in the insurance category.

"The main purpose of the Fintech summit is to find out newer and better solutions that serve all classes of people instead of favouring a single group," Shariful Islam, founder and managing director of Bangladesh Brand Forum said while delivering the opening remarks at the programme.

"In recent times, we have seen remarkable growth in terms of financial inclusion in Bangladesh, but still 50 per cent of people are not under financial inclusion, and fintech can bridge that gap in countries like ours," Khwaja Shahriar, managing director, and CEO, LankaBangla Finance Limited, said.

"Fintech is going to play a significant role in transforming the financial ecosystem," Sydul H Khandaker, managing director and CEO of Upay, said.

The theme for the summit was "Shaping Future of Finance for People of Bangladesh."

The Awards were given by Dr Dewan M Humayun Kabir, project director (Joint Secretary), a2i Programme, ICT Division; Prof Mohammad Abdul Momen, director, Institute of Business Administration (IBA), University of Dhaka; Prof Dr Muhammad Abdul Moyeen, dean (Acting), Faculty of Business Studies, University of Dhaka; Prof Imran Rahman, vice-chancellor, University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh and Nazia Andaleeb Preema, director & creative editor, Bangladesh Brand Forum; Founder Bangladesh Creative Forum; president, Women in Leadership.
