HerNet TV, the first television in Asia for the welfare of women, premiered a fashion film on local handloom and apparel on the occasion of 50 years of Bangladesh’s independence and the Handloom industry.

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni MP attended the film screening and magazine launching programme as chief guest at Gulshan Club in Dhaka on Monday, said a press release.

“The documentary would play a role in making Bangladesh’s tradition well known in the country and in the international arena by showcasing local clothes and costumes,” BGMEA President Faruque Hassan said while attending the event as guest of honor.

It would also help to create the opportunity of exporting Bangladeshi garments by linking our rich culture and heritage with fashion, he added.

HerNet Magazine was also launched on the occasion.

Some 50 iconic leading ladies participated in the film wearing dresses designed by 25 talented local fashion designers.

Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Md Atiqul Islam and State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Md Murad Hassan were present during the event as special guests.

BGMEA Director Barrister Shehrin Salam Oishee and Director of Giant Group Sharmeen Hassan Tithi were honoured as two of the 50 notable women during the programme.
