AL leader hacked dead in Tangail

A local leader of Awami League was hacked dead by miscreants in Dhanbari upazila of Tangail on Friday night.

The deceased was identified as Aminul Islam Talukder alias Nixon, 48, former general secretary of Hadira union unit Awami League in Gopalpur upazila.

The deceased was also a teacher at Lion Nazrul Islam Degree College in Tangail sadar and a vice chairman of a NGO.

Police said miscreants stabbed Aminul with sharp weapons near Azgora Bridge around 11:30pm while he was returning home riding his bike after attending a party meeting.

Locals rescued him from the spot in a critical condition and rushed to Madhupur Upazila Health Complex where physicians pronounced him dead.

The body has been sent to hospital morgue for an autopsy. A case will be filed over the incident, said Gopalpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mustafizur Rahman.
