Covid-19: Govt extends controlled movement until Aug 31

The government has extended the duration of controlled public movement and other activities until August 31 to ensure effective containment of coronavirus.

The cabinet division on Monday issued a memorandum to all the ministries over the implementation of the decision.

The memorandum, signed by Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet Division Mohammad Abdul Wadud Chowdhury, includes the order of the extension of duration among the ten directives.

According to the directives, no one will be allowed to move out between 10pm and 5am, from August 4 to August 31, except for emergency reasons.

Wearing masks, maintaining safe physical distance and abiding by the other recommended health guidelines in public places are mandatory. Failing to follow these rules will result in facing legal actions, it said.

Besides, there have to be arrangements for washing hands and sanitiser at the entrances of all shopping malls. Vehicles coming to the malls have to be disinfected properly. All the shops, markets and malls must be shut by 8pm.

As earlier, educational institutions are to remain closed during the period. But they can run online courses, distant learning programmes and administrative activities.

In late March, the government enforced a general holiday across the country to tackle the spread of the coronavirus.

But when the virus cases started to peak in late May, the restrictions were eased up and regular activities were restored on a limited scale.
