AJI group chairman and film actor Ananta Jalil denied forcing his workers at his RMG factory in Savar's Hemayetpur to work on May Day. He rather claimed workers came to the factory voluntarily for 'double pay'.

Criticism poured in after Ananta kept his factory open even on May Day, also known as the International Workers' Solidarity Day, amid reports of the workers’ demonstration in front of the factory.

On Saturday (May 2), in a Facebook post, Ananta said he announced to pay double if workers  could work only for 4 hours on the holiday. That is why some 300-400 workers voluntarily came to the factory.

Ananta further said the factory was kept open for production of PPE (Personal protective equipment) and masks. The workers were brought to the factory by company vehicle, Ananta added.
