Allama Shafi to be airlifted to Dhaka after health condition deteriorates

Hefazat-e Islam chief Ahmad Shafi is being airlifted to Dhaka from Chattogram for better treatment as his physical condition has deteriorated.

Earlier, Shafi was rushed to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on Thursday night and was admitted to the ICU unit as his pressure and pulse rate decreased at night.

On Friday, the medical board which was formed for his treatment suggested to move him to Dhaka for better treatment.

Aftabul Islam, Deputy Director of CMCH confirmed the news to The Business Post.

He said, “ The family members of Ahmad  Shafi agreed to take him to Dhaka for better treatment.”

"A helicopter landed at CMCH hostel grounds around 4:27pm on Friday to fly him to Dhaka's Asgar Ali Hosptial," the doctor added.

Earlier, Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi voluntarily resigned from the post of director-general (DG) of Al-Jamiatul Ahlia Darul Ulum Moinul Islam, popularly known as Hathazari Madrasa in Chattogram, amid student protests.

Technical and Madrasah Education Division of the Ministry of Education on Thursday shut down the 'Hathazari Madrasha' in Hathazari upazila of Chattogram until further notice following student unrest and vandalism at Allama Shafi’s office.
