Marriage through fake advert: Jannat placed on remand

A Dhaka has placed Jannat alias Jannatul Ferdous (38) on a two-day remand for her alleged involvement in embezzlement of money through temptation to get married and go abroad through newspaper advertisements.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Masud Ur Rahman passed the order on Friday after the Investigation Officer (IO) of police sought 10-day remands for interrogation.

Earlier on the day, Jannat’s lawyer filed a bail petition along with remand rejection prayer before the court. However, the court rejected the bail pleas and granted a two-day remand for the accused.

Earlier today, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Police has arrested a couple for their alleged involvement in embezzlement of money through temptation to get married and go abroad through newspaper advertisements.

CID Additional Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Sheikh Md Rezaul Haider confirmed the matter during a press briefing at CID headquarters on Friday.

“We already saw four bank accounts of her and we found a huge bank balance. We already communicated with those banks”, said Rezaul Haider.

During the press briefing many other victims were also present.

According to the law enforcement agencies, Sadia Jannat Alias Jannatul Ferdous (38), her husband Anamul Hasan are cheating with the common people through temptation to get married and go abroad through newspaper advertisements in the last 11 years.

They were arrested from Gulshan in Dhaka on Thursday. 10 mobile phones, 3 memory cards, huge sim cards, and five bank account slips were seized.
