National Productivity Day Sunday

The National Productivity Day will be observed on Sunday across the country aiming to create mass awareness to boost productivity in all fields, including industry, agriculture and service sectors.

This year's theme of the day is 'Productivity to meet the challenges of the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR)'.

President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave separate messages on the eve of the day, urging all to increase productivity for sustainable development and growth.

President Abdul Hamid said the government is determined to achieve Vision 2041 and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030 to make Bangladesh a developed and prosperous country, adding, "We have to increase productivity in every economic sector to achieve the targets. I believe NPO will play an active role in this context."

The head of the state said the government as well as private industries and service organisations in the country have to come forward to increase the productivity in every sector, including agriculture, industry and services of the country.

In today's world, the fourth industrial revolution is bringing huge changes in all areas, including people's thoughts, their lifestyle, product production, and service provision, Abdul Hamid said.

To face the challenges of the fourth industrial revolution, all concerned at the government and private levels should come forward with proper policies and plans, he said.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in her message, said, "I am happy to know that the National Productivity Organisation (NPO) under the Ministry of Industries is going to observe the 'National Productivity Day-2022' across the country."

"The theme of the day 'Productivity to meet the challenges of the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR) is very time befitting," she added.

The prime minister said the fourth industrial revolution is one of the most discussed topics in the world today.

The fourth industrial revolution is an ongoing process of automation of conventional production and industrial systems using modern technology, she added.

Productivity is what accelerates the pace of development, Sheikh Hasina said, adding if Bangladesh is to utilise the opportunity of the fourth industrial revolution, it must start preparations from now and work together to increase productivity in every sector of the country.

"To utilise the opportunities of the fourth industrial revolution, our main goal should be the creation of skilled human resources."

Only then, the overall economy of the country will become dynamic and productivity will increase, she said.

She underscored the need for appropriate plans for creating skilled manpower and increasing strategic productivity.

In order to develop productivity, Bangladesh has to practice the culture of productivity by following the model of developed countries, she suggested.

Sheikh Hasina said the Awami League-led government has already taken various steps to meet the challenges of the fourth industrial revolution in line with the global progress in order to build a developed Bangladesh in all areas such as information and technology, infrastructure and development, education and research of the country.

Both the president and the prime minister wished all the programmes taken for the 'National Productivity Day-2022' a success.
