Inflation edges down in Nov

The country’s inflation has slightly dropped to 8.85 per cent in November, which was 8.91 per cent in October, Planning Minister MA Mannan said on Monday.

The minister disclosed the monthly inflation data for November at a press conference at his office in the capital.

The decline was mainly due to the ease of fuel prices in the global market, Trading Corporation of Bangladesh providing subsidised essential food items, and a surplus of winter vegetables which helped avoid any food scarcity, said the planning minister.

Bangladesh’s inflation reached 9.5 per cent in August due to rising commodity prices and record hikes in fuel prices. But, it declined to 9.1 per cent in September.

According to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), food inflation in November reached 8.14 per cent, down from 8.50 per cent in October.

Non-food inflation in the last month stood at 9.98 per cent, which was 9.58 per cent in October, the BBS data said.
