Market capital declines by Tk 9,853cr

Despite uptick in the previous week, the stock markets ended the outgoing week (October 25-October 29) with a fall with the investors losing Tk 9,853 crore.

All stock market indices declined during the week and at the same time, the amount of money traded and the share and unit prices of most of the companies decreased.

It is learned that during the week, both the stock exchanges lost 9 thousand 853 crore 27 lakh 29 thousand taka. Before the start of trading on the first working day of the week at the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), market capitalization was 3 lakh 96 thousand 575 crore 5 lakh 21 thousand taka. At the end of the last working day of the week, market capitalization stood at 3 lakh 91 thousand 251 crore 50 lakh 12 thousand taka. In other words, market capitalization at the DSE reduced by 5 thousand 323 crore 55 lakh 9 thousand taka or 1.34 percent.

Before the commencement of trading on the first working day of the week market capitalization at the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) was 3 lakh 27 thousand 322 crore 18 lakh 40 thousand taka. At the end of the last working day of the week, market capitalization stood at 3 lakh 22 thousand 792 crore 46 lakh 20 thousand taka. In other words, the market capitalization at the CSE lost 4 thousand 529 crore 72 lakh 20 taka in a week.

It is learned that 3,962 crore 28 lakh 53 thousand 887 taka was traded at the DSE in 4 working days of the outgoing week. The amount was 278 crore 50 lakh 67 thousand 553 taka or 6.57 percent less than the previous week. In the previous week, the transaction was 4 thousand 240 crore 79 lakh 21 thousand 440 taka.

DSE's main index, the DSEX, went down by 67.93 points or 1.38 percent to 4,846.10 points during the week. Among other indices, the Shariah Index declined by 15.37 points or 1.38 percent and the DSE-30 Index went down by 12.31 points or 0.73 percent to 1,098.80 points and 1,680.13 points respectively.

In the outgoing week, a total of 360 companies participated in the share and unit transactions in the DSE. Among the companies, the share prices of 106 companies increased and 210 companies decreased. Share prices of 44 companies remained unchanged.

At the CSE in the outgoing week, the amount of money traded was 119 crore 26 lakh 15 thousand 801 taka. In the previous week the transaction was 116 crore 12 lakh 87 thousand 101 taka. In other words, the turnover at the CSE during the week has increased by 3 crore 13 lakh 28 thousand 701 taka or 2.69 percent.

During the week, the overall CSE index CASPI decreased by 205.55 points or 1.46 percent to 13,824.13 points. Shares and units of 314 companies traded at the CSE during the week. Share prices of 98 companies increased and 174 companies decreased. However, share prices of 42 companies remained unchanged.
